pH

The correct vaginal pH balance is essential for maintaining a healthy vagina. The epithelial cells that line the vagina naturally produce a polysaccharide called glycogen, which stimulates the growth of good protective bacteria called lactobacilli. These bacteria produce lactic acid which keeps the pH of the vagina a healthy 3.8. This slightly acidic environment keeps unwanted bacteria and fungi away and helps the natural function of vaginal secretions. Post-menopause the epithelial cells produce less glycogen and consequently less lactic acid is created to protect the vagina from invasive bacteria.

Cerynë contains lactic acid and glycogen to mimic the natural secretions found in the vaginal and maintain a heathy pH of 3.8.

Osmolality

Osmolality refers to the concentration of particles in a solution. The osmolality of the vagina needs to be carefully balanced in order to maintain its health. If the osmolality is too high or too low, it can have a negative impact on the delicate cells that line the surface of the vagina.
